It’s been five months since the 3400 Iranian dissidents of camp Ashraf, in Iraq, submitted their requests to UNHCR. But UNHCR has not yet begun its work to reconfirm the status of the residents of this camp as asylum seekers. Bowing to Iranian pressure and looking to pave the way for the slaughter of the residents, the Iraqi government has conditioned the start of this process to their relocation to a prison in Baghdad, ironically named as ‘Camp Liberty’.

400 Ashraf Residents Go to Liberty absent Necessary Assurances

Stop Fundamentalism, 17 Feb 2012 - Following months of discussions and threats by government of Iraq and pressures by UN Special Representative Martin Kobler, 400 residents of Camp Ashraf have agreed to leave their home for 25 today to go to Camp Liberty were they are expected to be interviewed by the United Nations Refugee agency, UNHCR, for resettlement in third countries (countries except Iran and Iraq).

Australian body raises concerns over Iranian regime ambassador’s remarks on Ashraf

Iranian regime ambassador  DanaifarICFTO - The Australian Supporters of Democracy in Iran issued a call to UN High Commissioner for Refugee Antonio Guterres expressing its concerns regarding the media statements wired by the Iranian regime’s Fars news agency citing the mullahs’ ambassador to Iraq claiming a number of Ashraf residents had already returned to Iran and attributing similar dangerous remarks to the UN Secretary General’s Special Representative to Iraq Mr. Martin Kobler.
