Symposium on Ashraf & Human Rights Situation in Iran.
Over 90 political prisoners have been executed in Iran since the beginning of 2011 – the Iranian regime’s counter measure to discourage increasing dissent that it fears will be inspired by the escalating unrest in the Middle East.
● Siege conditions and attacks on Ashraf, home in Northern Iraq to 3,400 Iranian dissidents, intensify as the Iranian regime, through its influence on the Iraqi government, seeks to eliminate this source and symbol of freedom for Iran.
● Attack on Ashraf 7th January 2011 injured 175, over 90 of them women.
● Ali Saremi (28th December) and Ja’far Kazemi and Mohammad Ali Haj Aghaei (24th January) were executed in Iran after several years on death row for
having visited relatives in Ashraf. This in response to growing strength and unity of International community action in support of Ashraf.
● Cancer patient dies in Ashraf, having been denied essential treatment. Condition of many other patients similarly denied treatment deteriorates.
● Death threats and insults broadcast into Ashraf day and night from 180 loudspeakers is psychological torture says International community.
● Many eminent speakers will be at the symposium in Support of Ashraf at Central Hall in Westminster on 14th February calling for:
The US Government to take back responsibility for protecting residents of Ashraf as Protected Persons under the 4th Geneva Convention.
The United Nations to set up a permanent monitoring station in Ashraf to prevent further atrocities and to work to bring the siege and other restrictions to an end.
The Ashraf Closure Committee of the Iraqi government to be dissolved.
Please do join us for this important event. Our voice must now be heard loudly and clearly and spread far and wide so that decisive action will be taken.
